Shrek the Musical Review

Well as I haven't blogged in a while, I thought what better thing to write about than a musical....

Ive been to see Shrek The Musical twice in the space of a month, the first time was a birthday present from me to one of my closet friends and the second was because I won tickets on twitter so thanks very much @Shrekthemusical! Be sure to follow them on twitter they are always talking about events in the show or doing free give-aways!

I absolutely loveed the musical, its so colourful and happy, and it sticks so closely to the film. It even includes some of my favourite lines from the movie and the song, "Duloc is a perfect place!" you know the one that goes:

Welcome to Duloc, such a perfect town
Here we have some rules, let us lay them down
Don't make waves, stay in line
And we'll get along fine
Duloc is a perfect place

Keep your feet off the grass
Shine your shoes, wipe your...face
Duloc is, Duloc is
Duloc is a perfect place!!

As you can tell I really LOVE that song, so I loved that it was in the musical!

Right anyway....the set of the musical is amazing and it's so creative. When Shrek and Donkey cross the lava bridge to get to Fiona's tower the stage splits in two and lifts upwards revealing the bridge underneath. The dragon is also featured in the musical by using a puppet, which is moved by some very well trained workers which give it a very lifelike effect, whilst the actress: Landi Oshinowo sings off-stage, her voice is incredible!

The cast that ive seen were also amazing, Ive seen the same leading male as Shrek:  Dean Chisnall who was really good, and leading female as Fiona: Kimberly Walsh who totally blew me away!!! And Donkey played by: Richard Blackwood, who really brought the comedy of the character to life from the film.

However Lord Farquaad was played by a different actor each time that I went due to a change of cast. When I first went I saw Nigel Harman who was fantastic!!! His voice was amazing and his ability to dance around on his knees for 2hrs and 30mins was brilliant!! And on my second visit I saw Neil McDermott's opening night, his voice wasnt quite as strong as his fellow Eastenders actor's but he still did an amazing job and he played the character really well!!

I would recommend this musical to anyone especially if you loved the film, it a great one for kids  but it has loads of adult jokes for you to enjoy!!!

Reading...Breakfast at Darcy's

I really love to read, which obviously helps being a English student, so expect to see some posts about books I've loved frequently appearing on this page!

Today I finally finished reading Ali McNamara's Breakfast at Darcy's, its taken me a while to get round to reading the book due to all my deadlines at uni. But I started it last weekend knowing that this week was my reading week so I should...read something, I don't think this was the type of book the lecturers were thinking of but oh well!

Breakfast at Darcy's Book Cover
I absolutely love the book cover, its just so colourful and it sums up the atmosphere of the book perfectly!

The story is brilliant and very original, which is centred around Darcy's new life on the island of Tara, and her struggle to cope with being in charge of the villagers on the island and making important decisions which could effect their lives forever. The story has twists and turns that you never would of expected, I don't want to give too much away so I will choose my words carefully, but I loved the characters especially Darcy and Dermot's obvious chemistry which Darcy is oblivious to and Megan's straightforward thinking which is true to young children (which I know all to well, due to my 10 year old brother). I will also admit that I had a tear in my eye in the final two chapters!

I'd highly recommend the book to anyone, McNamara has once again written a brilliant romcom book. If you loved From Notting Hill with Love...Actually, (which I really really did seeing as romcom films/books are my favourites, so this was the perfect book for me) then you will not be disappointed!!!

I really cant wait to see what she brings out next, one things for sure whatever it is I'll be buying it!

Exclusive Screening of 'La Luna'

La Luna

Today I attended a talk at my university by Daniel McCoy who was the supervising technical director of Disney Pixar's new short film La Luna, its such a fantastic animation! It has brilliant background music, and the story concept was lovely. It will be included with Pixar's new feature film Brave which comes out Summer 2012.

McCoy was a great speaker too, he had some great stories to tell about the production of 'La Luna' and he even held a Q&A session after, which was really insightful. I even plucked up the courage to ask him a question about how technology has progressed in animation and how they cope with it when creating a film. To which he answered that usually they pick a style/concept of technology to use and stick with it to cause less complications!

McCoy has even worked on feature films such as: Toy Story 3, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc and his own personal favourite, Ratatouille.

Take a look above at the great picture! : )
